Previous Meetings: 23rd Meeting Strebersdorf, 1980: Programme and Report

Dear Reader,

the 23rd Annual Meeting of the Permanent International Altaistic Conference (PIAC) was held in Strebersdorf, near Vienna (Austria), in 1980. One Japanese scholar, Ikegami Jirō, who at that time already could look back on a history of more than 20 years since his first participation in a PIAC meeting, wrote a detailed report about this Meeting. His report is especially valuable in light of the many changes that took place during the Meeting, and which are not visible from the original programme. By the way, another 20 years later, Ikegami Jirō was awarded the Indiana University Prize for Altaic Studies, colloquially known as the PIAC Medal, in 2002.

Previous Meetings: 43rd Meeting Lanaken, 2000 — Programme and List of Participants

Dear Reader,

Materials of the 43rd Meeting of the Permanent International Altaistic Conference (PIAC), held in Lanaken in 2000, are available now: list of participants and programme.

The programme reflects, to a certain degree, the actual sequence of communications which occasionally deviates from the printed material.

Previous Meetings: 45th Meeting Budapest, 2002

Dear Reader,

the 45th Annual Meeting of the Permanent International Altaistic Conference (PIAC) was held in Budapest, Hungary, in June 2002 and was hosted by the Research Group for Altaic Studies,
Hungarian Academy of Sciences.

The programme of this meeting is now available. In the preface of the proceedings volume, Alice Sárközi mentions a total 88 of participants, so this was definitely one of the larger PIAC meetings, yet not everybody who registered for the meeting and submitted an abstract seems to have participated. The programme reproduced here attempts to reflect this situation.

Previous Meetings: 36th Meeting Almaty, 1993

Dear Reader,

the 36th Annual Meeting of the Permanent International Altaistic Conference (PIAC) was held in Almaty, Kazakhstan, in June 1993 and was hosted by the Centre of Oriental Studies of National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The programme of this meeting is now available, with the following structure: The first half of the programme lists the general daily schedule in English, while the second half of the programme lists all communications, however in Russian. The total is 87 contributions, so this was definitely one of the larger PIAC meetings.

Previous Meetings: 48th Meeting Moscow, 2005

Dear Reader,

in 2005, the 48th Meeting of the Permanent International Altaistic Conference (PIAC) was held near Moscow, the first time to take place in Russia proper. Before that, one meeting of the PIAC had been held in the USSR, it was the 29th Meeting which took place in Tashkent in 1986.

The list of participants and the programme of the 48th Meeting are available now.

Previous Meetings: 42nd Meeting, Prague 1999

Dear Reader,

The the discovery of archival materials always offers a fortunate opportunity to fill in blank spots in the history of the Permanent International Altaistic Conference (PIAC). This is even more important in cases where no proceedings volume was ever produced.

For the 42nd Meeting of the PIAC held in Prague in 1999 hosted under the auspices of RFE/RL, the following materials are now available in addition to the existing article by Bruce Pannier:

Previous Meetings: Programme of 16th Meeting, Ankara 1973

Dear Reader,

from the archives of Györges Hazai the editor could obtain the Programme of the 16th Annual Meeting of the Permanent International Altaistic Conference, Ankara 1973. There are some minor differences between this programme and the Proceedings; not all  speakers in the programme appear with their contributions in the Proceedings, but this quite a normal case as usually not all participants submit their papers for publication in written form, and sometimes the editors take an additional step of accepting only a selection of papers offered by the contributors for the Proceedings.
