Indirektivität im Chakassischen
(45th Meeting of the PIAC, Budapest 2002)
Khakas predicates in -(I)ptIr denote postterminality and has indirective meanings. The modal connotations can be interpreted as hearsay, reportative, inferential, etc. In many other languages, e.g. German or English, it is expressed optionally by means of modal words. Turkic languages, e.g. Khakas, are strikingly similar with respect to the encoding of indirectivity.
