Early Resources on East Asian Studies in Kazan

The paper explores the early role of Kazan as a centre of Central and East Asian Studies. It focuses on the establishment of chairs for Mongolian and Chinese/Manchu Studies, their first occupants and the book collections. Extensive use is made of the progress reports on oriental Studies in Kazan as well as catalogues and papers by V. P. Vasil’ev and Jozef Kowalewski.
