Corrigenda to earlier reconstructions of Middle Mongolian data from Sino-Mongolian
glossaries
(66th Annual Meeting of the PIAC Göttingen, 2024)
It is a natural part of academic work that researchers question their own results and check their validity from time to time, and if necessary, improve them.
Recently, in the course of a larger academic project, I had to review my previously published studies on bilingual Sino-Mongolian glossaries, and in the process, I revised several of my earlier reconstructions to the lexicon of the Beilu yiyu 北虜譯語; the Yibu 譯部 chapters of the Lulongsai lüe 盧龍塞略 (and therefore inherently to the Beilu kao 北虜考 of the Wu Bei Zhi 武備志 as well as to the Dada yu 韃靼語). Although these corrections do not affect the overall picture of the findings regarding the linguistic status of Middle Mongolian, in some cases minor or even major clarifications were made nevertheless, and in addition, some previously undeciphered words were deciphered while some incorrect readings were rectified. In this paper I will present some of the more important ones.
