Public Ridicule

Public ridicule existed in most societies, including those in the geographic confines of historical Inner Asia. An effective social tool, ridicule often developed as a type of control within the customs of a society and then expanded into the legal arena. When some form of mobile punishment seemed to be justified, animals were used to ridicule.
