Some Questions of Mongolian Democratisation

(45th Meeting of the PIAC, Budapest 2002)

This paper is studying one of the most interesting periods of the modern Mongolian history, the democratisation. This period (1988–1992) started with formation of the first opposition groups and ended with passing the new constitution of Mongolia in 1992.

The aim of this paper is to analyse and compare the events of the Mongolian transition with events of countries at the Eastern Block.

Important question is that whether the Mongolian democratisation can be incorporated in the process of the Eastern European countries’ transition or not? What sort of characteristic does the Mongolian changes have?
