This paper will discuss the role of the Kalmyk cavalry in the Great Nothem War, 1700–1721 based on the evidence from the Museum of Military History in Sweden. The museum has a rare collection of the Kalmyk bunchuks (military banners) that were captured by the Swedes in the battle of Saladen in July of 1703. This is a new evidence that allows us to reconstruct a fuller picture of the Kalmyk participation in the Russian military campaigns in the early eighteenth century.
