The Titles of the Western Turkic Chieftains
(55th Meeting, 2012)
Sometimes between 634 and 651 the Western Turkic tribes were organized as the ‘Ten Tribes’ consisting of the five Duolu (Western Branch) and the five Nushibi (Eastern Branch). Their chieftains were named as chuo (čor) and sijin (erkin) respectively. Comparing our data with some Western sources, we are intended to reconstruct the original tribal structure of this part of the Empire and also the original titulature of their chieftains.
